Welcome

Welcome to the course blog for UED 75200: Research on everyday knowledges, literate citizenry, and life in urban environments. This is a public blog on the CUNY Academic Commons, which means that it is visible to anyone on the web. When writing posts, please be aware that the default setting for your content is public. Should you ever wish to limit visibility of your post content to members of the class, you must select “password protected” on the visibility options on the right-hand side of the “Add New Post” page, under “Publish.”

After privacy concerns, the next important aspect of blogging is organization. Please note the categories of posts and make sure that every post has its own category (the default is “Uncategorized” so posts under this umbrella often get lost in the shuffle). As authors of the blog, you are invited to further categorize your content using tags. Taxonomically, categories are broader than tags. An example of this: Marissa writes a blog post and selects the category “Reading Responses,” but she wants to further classify it by adding the tag “Santos” or “ecology of knowledge” so readers have more specific information. You are able to search by category or tag, as well, making it easier to find posts around particular topics.

This blog is designed to be collaborative and evolving. As such, it will function as an online commons space for folks to share their thoughts and questions in anticipation of the face-face meetings in the months of June and July.

How is the blog different from the group? The group connected to this blog is private and functions as the place for forums or to store documents. Announcements from the professor will be issued on the group site, as well. Please make sure to set your email settings on the annexed group to “All Email” or at least to “Daily Digest” in order to ensure that you are staying abreast of all activity.
